What tickets are available?
In the RMV-HandyTicket you can choose between Single Trip tickets, Day passes, and group day tickets (Group pass) for adults, as well as the Hessenticket.
In addition, Single Trip tickets and Day passes for children and BahnCards discounted Single Trip tickets for the owner of a valid BahnCard 25 or BahnCard 50 are available.
Can I buy cross network fare tickets?
Cross network fare tickets are not available through the RMV-HandyTicket for organizational reasons. However, you can do a timetable enquiry in the RMV-App and RMV-HandyPortal for bus and/or train stops in the cross-network fare zones.
Can I purchase onward travel tickets?
Unfortunately, due to organizational reasons, it is currently not possible to purchase onward travel tickets with the RMV-HandyTicket.
What types of vehicles can I use?
RMV-HandyTickets entitle you to use all types of local transportation vehicles within the ticket’s coverage area. The local transportation vehicles include buses, trams, subways, commuter trains, and regional trains (RE, RB, SE).
Long-distance trains (ICE or IC) are not included in the RMV offerings and require separate tickets that can be obtained at the appropriate points-of-sale, e.g. Deutsche Bahn.
How do I buy a ticket?
The ticket purchase is possible via the menus "http://smobil.rmv.de/Buy a ticket"http://smobil.rmv.de/ and "http://smobil.rmv.de/Timetables"http://smobil.rmv.de/. When purchasing via the "http://smobil.rmv.de/Buy a ticket"http://smobil.rmv.de/ menu, the start station and the destination (at least the destination or the four-digit tariff target area number) must be entered and then desired ticket type must be selected. Afterwards, please choose the details for "http://smobil.rmv.de/Traveler"http://smobil.rmv.de/ and "http://smobil.rmv.de/your ticket"http://smobil.rmv.de/.
If different routes are possible, you will receive a selection of the possible routes. "http://smobil.rmv.de/ohne Umweg” (without detour) refers to the direct path. If a travel possibility via a non-direct tariff zone exists, you are offered a "http://smobil.rmv.de/Via"http://smobil.rmv.de/ route. The selection of the ticket has to be based on the actual used route.
The purchase process is confirmed and completed by pressing the button "http://smobil.rmv.de/Buy ticket now"http://smobil.rmv.de/. If you don’t want to buy your ticket via your user account, so the billing can happen via the mobile phone bill, the credit card or with a NFC-enabled Android smartphone via girogo. Only the purchase via girogo becomes a binding transaction when you hold your girogo card to the back of your NFC smartphone.
The ticket is then immediately delivered to the RMV-App and displayed on the screen.
Please make sure that the app has access to the Internet so that the ticket can be delivered. The display of the ticket in the RMV-App is considered a valid ticket.
Alternatively, the purchase of a Single Trip ticket following a timetable enquiry is possible. Below the "http://smobil.rmv.de/connection details"http://smobil.rmv.de/ you can select the "http://smobil.rmv.de/Buy ticket"http://smobil.rmv.de/ button. The subsequent steps are the same as in the "http://smobil.rmv.de/Buy a ticket"http://smobil.rmv.de/ menu. The functionality is only available when connections are available, whose departure is imminent.
How do I buy a ticket with BahnCard discount or children's tickets?
You can buy tickets for children or Single Trip tickets with BahnCard discount easily with a selection in the menu "http://smobil.rmv.de/purchase options"http://smobil.rmv.de/ on the front page. You can only get a BahnCard discount if you own a BahnCard 25 or BahnCard 50. Single tickets with BahnCard discount are only valid for journeys with the rail transportation products S, RB and RE from price level 5 upwards. To purchase a Single Trip ticket with BahnCard discount train stations has to be entered both as start and destination.
How do I buy a ticket in the timetable enquiry section?
The ticket purchase in the timetable section requires the selection of a unique connection. Please select a connection and click the button "http://smobil.rmv.de/Buy ticket"http://smobil.rmv.de/ at the bottom of the detailed view. The purchase of tickets is only available when connections are available, whose departure is imminent. Single Trip tickets purchased through the RMV-HandyTicket are also only valid for immediate travel. For connections that are too far in the future, the button "http://smobil.rmv.de/Buy ticket"http://smobil.rmv.de/ is not displayed. Due to technical reasons, only Single Trip tickets are available via this method at this time.
Can I buy tickets in advance?
SingleTrip tickets purchased through the RMV-HandyTicket are also only valid for immediate travel. Day passes, Group passes, and the Hessenticket cannot be purchased in advance for other days of validity.
Can I buy tickets for fellow travelers?
Additional tickets for one or two additional passengers can be stored on the phone. For a larger group of travelers it is worth it to purchase the Group passes (group day ticket), which can be purchased for up to three consecutive days just like the Day pass. Using this way up to three valid tickets can be simultaneously stored within the RMV-App.
How does the ticket inspection work?
The tickets are stored in the RMV-App on your mobile phone. This way you can always display the ticket, even if you have no wireless coverage. Tickets are filed under "http://smobil.rmv.de/Tickets"http://smobil.rmv.de/ The last ten tickets purchased are stored here in chronological order.
Can I buy a purchased ticket again?
Stored tickets can be bought again.
How do I use Favourites?
You can quickly and easily add or delete favourites by using the star icon in the "http://smobil.rmv.de/Buy a ticket"http://smobil.rmv.de/ and "http://smobil.rmv.de/Timetables"http://smobil.rmv.de/ sections. You can use these "http://smobil.rmv.de/Favourites"http://smobil.rmv.de/ to purchase a ticket, for a timetable enquiry, or to display the departure times at your bus or train stop. Just click on the arrow icon.
You can easily rearrange the favourites through drag and drop (click, push, release) in the favourites list or slide it to the right off the list and thereby deleting it.
What if my battery is empty during a ticket inspection?
According to the General Conditions of Carriage (Gemeinsame Beförderungsbedingungen) each passenger is obligated to have a valid ticket at the start of the journey and to always be able to show it. This also applies to the RMV-HandyTicket. The excuse "http://smobil.rmv.de/my battery is dead"http://smobil.rmv.de/ is not valid during a ticket inspection and results in an increased transportation fee that is charged by the inspection staff.
How many tickets fit into the ticket storage?
The tickets purchased remain in storage until the maximum number of 10 tickets is reached. If an eleventh ticket is purchased, the oldest ticket is overwritten. However, the tickets remain and can be viewed and printed in myRMV.
The ticket is not displayed after purchase - what should I do?
The RMV-HandyTicket is delivered over the Internet. Please ensure that you are connected to the Internet throughout the whole purchasing transaction. Depending on the availability of the mobile network, the transfer of tickets may be delayed. If a purchased ticket will not be immediately displayed on the screen or is listed under "http://smobil.rmv.de/Tickets"http://smobil.rmv.de/, please refresh the page before buying another ticket ("http://smobil.rmv.de/Tickets"http://smobil.rmv.de/ > "http://smobil.rmv.de/Refresh"http://smobil.rmv.de/ button (arrow icon top right)).
If, despite a good connection no ticket is displayed, a system failure may have occurred. In this case we ask you to use one of our other distribution channels (e.g. ticket machine) and to report the incident also through our contact form or the RMV Service Hotline. We will examine whether there was an error and, if appropriate, initiate a refund.
